If you are passionate about helping to end homelessness and want to support people who have recently suffered street homelessness in Croydon, then this is a fantastic opportunity for you.  It is a fixed term, full-time role until end May 2025 and there will likely be opportunities for extension.

We have a complex needs service in East Croydon and this Support Worker role will lead on the specific rapid assessment service we provide for up to ten customers in our somewhere safe to stay hub.

The hub is part of our Palmer House service for single homeless people. Conveniently located, we are a 10-minute walk from East Croydon Station, offering excellent transport links across London and beyond.

As a Support Mentor/Worker in our rapid assessment hub, your primary focus areas will include:

  1. Managing a caseload of hub customers while also providing support to your colleagues to ensure all customers have effective support which is actioned in a timely manner using rapid assessment/referral techniques.
  2. Work with customers to quickly identify the most appropriate housing option and put a plan in place to enable them access this quickly to prevent homelessness or rough sleeping.

You will be part of a team of three colleagues providing the Hub service but overall part of the wider Palmer House team in a busy but enjoyable environment.

A key part of the role is enabling customers to gain necessary support from other agencies and advocate for them to find alternative accommodation outside of the hub - you will need to be able to network/build relationships with those in other organisation. You need knowledge of safeguarding and how this may apply in the day-to-day work we do as well as understanding of the reasons why people become homeless. Your role is to work closely with the customers you support to coordinate their personalised support plans, this role has a greater focus on meeting immediate basic needs such as healthcare as your customers will likely have been referred directly from rough sleeping.
